Just moments after Jeremy Lewis purchased his cola, he heard the crash — the sound of a mo-ped rider being struck by an SUV.

"One second he was inside here talking and the next second he was pulling out and got hit," Lewis said of the man. "He was just a familiar face."

At 8:50 p.m. Friday, the 42-year-old North Charleston man pulled out of the Sunoco on Remount Road. The rider was struck by a sport utility vehicle that was headed west, said Spencer Pryor, police public information officer.
